Some Franklin residents unable to dial 911 due to damaged cable
Some residents of Franklin who use AT&T as an internet provider were unable to make calls to 911 beginning Sunday morning due to a damaged cable.
It is unknown when service will be restored or how many people are affected by the outage.
According to Jill Burgin, external affairs officer at the Williamson County Emergency Management Agency, the emergency communications director for the Williamson County Government received a message from AT&T Sunday around 8 a.m. informing them there was an outage caused by a copper failure, which resulted in a damaged cable. The customers affected were said to be "out of the Franklin, Tennessee Central Office."
As of Wednesday afternoon, Burgin had not received an update from AT&T since being informed of the outage. AT&T was unable to provide a timeline for when the issue would be resolved.
"We are working as quickly as possible to repair a cable and network equipment, which was damaged recently in a car accident," a statement from an AT&T spokesperson said. "This damaged equipment is disrupting service for some landline and internet service customers in Franklin and they will need to use cell phones to contact emergency services while we complete our work."
People who are affected are asked to call 615-790-5757 in case of an emergency.
